Closing Out the Cottage's First Year

The first year at Doubling Point Cottage has been an amazing one! In addition to completing restoring the cottage and outfitting it for guests, we hosted…

  • 43 reservations (including Destie’s brother through November and December);
  • Guests from 14 states, including all of New England as well as Washington, California, Idaho, Texas, and others;
  • And 8 countries, including Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates.

Guests included honeymooners, friends celebrating their 35th high school reunion, former locals visiting the area for the first time since the ‘70s (I guess it’s changed a lot!), a family of three (two parents, one toddler) touring the country for months in their van, a couple who got engaged while staying with us, vacationers, family visits, and folks scoping out the Midcoast as a potential new home.

Our guests overwhelmed us with their generosity and good spirits, and we were very happy to host their adventures at Doubling Point Cottage. In return, they shared some lovely comments. Some of our favorites included:

  • “We found beauty, rest, and comfort at Doubling Point Cottage … and loved the coffee!”
  • “We’ve been many times to Maine –as children, then as vacationers to Popham with our own children – never have we felt such ease and relaxation.”
  • “This quaint little house was the perfect hideaway for my parents and I. The sounds were calming, views serene, and board games nostalgic.”
  • “We had an amazing time at Doubling Point cottage. It was the perfect location for exploring. We will truly never forget our stay – we got engaged on Monday , and if that’s not a testament to the good things happening in and around this house, I don’t know what is!”

For 2015, we have a lot on tap! We look forward to painting the front porch, replacing the sun room windows with screens to catch the breeze, turning the backyard into a garden hideaway, and much more. We look forward to re-hosting our guests from 2014 and meeting many new guests – we can’t wait to see what adventures await the cottage for the 2015 season!
