It's Summer! Eat Outside...While You Can!
Two weekend days in a row with weather over 70 degrees means that it’s really, finally summer. There’s not a minute to lose bringing your meals outside… September comes quickly. We’ve picked a few of our favorites for you here!
- Mae’s Café has lovely café breakfasts with a shady patio near the courthouse overlooking downtown Bath. A favorite among our out-of-town guests (Ramon’s Breakfast Burrito is Destie’s go-to order).
- The Cabin Pizza has a fabulous hidden courtyard that you wouldn’t even know to look for: bring a pizza and a pitcher of beer, and relax on picnic tables hidden away behind an ivy-covered fence.
- Five Islands Lobster Company, 15 minutes down the peninsula in Georgetown, is definitely THE place to be on Mother’s Day (traditional opening day for the area’s favorite lobster shack). Bring a bottle of prosecco (it’s BYOB!) to enjoy with their excellent fish and chips.
- The best spot to have a cocktail right on the river is the Kennebec Tavern. We confess – we start the evening there, then head elsewhere for dinner. But the Maple Bourbon Manhattan, overlooking the Kennebec River, is a truly great start to any evening.
- The newly refurbished Winnegance General Store has a lovely menu, and they open at 6 for breakfast. Order at the counter, and try to snag one of the great porch spots so you can take in the river while you munch a cinnamon-crusted blueberry doughnut.
- It’s not your typical ‘outdoor dining’, but we love to get burritos from Mateo’s Hacienda and carry them to Front Street – there are lots of little bistro tables set up in town that anyone can use, and on a summer evening it’s a fun way to enjoy downtown.
- In the same vein, a breakfast of ripe berries and muffins or scones – or fresh baked rolls or bagels with chevre – all picked up at the Bath Farmer’s Market and enjoyed alongside the live music and crowd of hungry shoppers, is basically the best meal you could ask for.
There are plenty more – Brunswick has number of great outdoor dining spots – but these are our tried-and-true favorites, and we hope they become yours too!
Our kiddo thinks farmer's market breakfasts are the best. Featured here: Rosemary Sourdough Roll from Borealis Breads; garlic-herb chevre from Appleton Creamery.
